YouTube description:
We had so much fun putting together every best picture ever, we thought we'd highlight every best visual effects winner next.
For the 1927/28 Academy awards, the award was for engineering effects. There was no award again until 1938 where it was called a special award "for outstanding achievement in creating special photographic and sound effects. The very next year the award was combined with sound effects and called the Award for Special Effects. It wasn't until 1963 that the award became the Award for Best Visual Effects (which it is still called today). It was given every year from 1963 to present, with the exception of 1973. Hope you enjoy!
**Also we apologize for the two title mistakes. We had already uploaded it when we noticed:
*The Thief OF Bagdad
*Reap The Wild WIND

Paybacksays...Really amazes me how far before it's time 2001 was. The winners for the next 10 years or so were, honestly, crap in comparison.
dannym3141says...It always amazes me how bad the actors were back then. "We're going down!" with no expression on his face. Good take guys, can you try doing one where you do a bit of acting this time, maybe? Look a bit concerned you're crashing a plane?
Jinxsays...My reaction was exactly the same. The cut from Dr Doolittle is like woooooooosh. On reflection though those scenes don't have that much going on in the way of special effects - to me its about really amazing set/prop design, lighting and directing. The way the light shines on Bowman's eyes... I don't think that is an accident and I suppose you could argue it was a visual effect.

newtboysays...How is stock footage of an iceberg calving a 'visual effect'?
Same question for Morlock costumes. A costume is hardly an effect. There were certainly visual effects in 'time machine', but the costumes were hardly in that catagory.
