Dads lie. Dads always lie.

Good grief. This commercial was so amazingly exploitative.
Lots of feels.

As a side light; if you ever wondered why AIG, as an insurance company, ever had any good reputation at all---part of it is because they operated in pre-war Shanghai---and when the war came, and then after that, the Communists, they apparently, and quite compulsively, made sure that their Chinese records survived both rather titanic upheavals---so insureds were able to re-establish their lives amid the chaos of war and civil war.

Thus, the idea of an insurance policy; and being able to bear any burden for your children---would resonate in the Pacific Rim...especially among the overseas, English speaking Chinese diaspora...

And there are a lot of parents who would bear enormous burdens for their children...and in Confucian culture, children who would then bear burdens for their parents. Of course, in modern, post-revolutionary China---I dunno anymore.
