Cenk Uygur discusses the VP debate on CNN

Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks participates in the expert panel discussing the VP debate on CNN Headline News. I think he was effective in busting the myth of a tie between the VP candidates.

Starting his statement with "we were expecting a 0 and we got a 1 1/2 out of 10" lets him be dismissed as just one more partisan spin artist.

Self-obsessed tribalism is for the weak of mind.

I said this would be the outcome after watching it... because she didn't say anything outlandishly stupid, people would say that she did a great job. Because we all were hoping for the most stupid thing ever to come out of a VP candidate's mouth to occur we were amazed that it didn't.

BUT... She was crap, she didn't answer questions, she resorted to soundbite deliveries... she was terrible.

Biden was solid.

These commentators are terrible (other than the young turk guy)... to actually say that just because Biden didn't 'put her away' that it's a draw... oh COME ON!

You've lowered your expectations so much, and are now ready to accept pathetic as the new capable?

Please

In my view, the most horrible statement in this video came near the end, when the republican lady managed to utter:

"(...) the fact that we are talking all about Sarah Palin's performance proves that Joe Biden was incapable of putting her away. That means he didn't win, it's still a draw."

Of course everyone was going to talk about Sarah Palin after all the hype before this debate. People would have talked about her no matter how her performance was. To say that this alone made it a draw is really grasping at straws.

It's hard to put someone away when they won't engage in actual debate. It was like she was delivering one of a dozen preplanned speeches, based on whatever the topic of the question was. And people just eat it up.

36% in a poll is a tie now?

That's great news for Bush. His approval rating is 32% according to FOX/Opinion Dynamics. Because Bush's approval rating isn't in single digits the country is split 50/50.

rougysays...

Cenk was right.

The expectations for her were set so low that any performance short of a catastrophe would have been painted victorious.

That's not a 'tribal' observation; it's the plain fact of the matter.

Imagine if professional sports worked this way...

Lebron James decides that he'll just run with the ball because he may not dribble like the rules or the ref want, but he's playing for the American people. If his team is down by twenty points, it's still a tie on the record books, right?

Kruposays...

She fought AGAINST divestment? OMG, this is a scandal. Why is THAT not being discussed more?

Seriously, if only you could someone charge someone with perjury... against yourself.

The other HLN talking heads are yammering idiots, clearly. Though I love how they admit she wasn't honest. Wow.
