Calling All Sci-Fi Geeks - James Cameron's "Avatar"

lucky760says...

Slated for release December 2009. I've heard nary a word of this flick. A brief mention of the title by someone on the radio was my first indication James Cameron was working on a new project. Apparently it's been in the works for a few years now.

Collated snippets of info from around IMDB:

"Project 880" Also Known As: Avatar: An IMAX 3D Experience (USA) (IMAX version)

Announced on June 14, 2005 in the Hollywood Reporter, James Cameron's untitled "Project 880" is a parallel project being developed alongside Battle Angel (2011). It will use the same digital-3D camera system (developed by Vince Pace) and virtual production studio (developed by Robert Legato) that Cameron will use on Battle Angel.

Sigourney Weaver plays a 'James Cameron' persona for her character in 'Avatar'. Sigourney stated in an interview, "I teased him because to me I'm playing Jim Cameron in the movie as this kind of brilliant, approach-driven, idealistic perfectionist. But that same somebody has a great heart underneath. So I have to say I was always kind of channeling him."

James Cameron' originally attempted to get this film made in 1999 as his immediate follow-up to Titanic (1997). However, at the time, the special effects he wanted for the movie ran the proposed budget up to $400 million. No studio would fund the film, and it was subsequently shelved for almost ten years.

definitely fan made - text is too fast, poorly placed and there's just too much of it (plus I doubt it will be called James Cameron's Avatar rather than just Avatar). And the Avatar logo looks like it was hand-rendered (HOW big do you want to make the loop on the R there dude?)

And the thing with all the 3D movies is that your local cinema will probably shut forever unless hollywood can get a non-piratable gimmick to get audiences to stop downloading movies and watching them at home.

Hmm if this is real, sweet. But I suspect it's an after-affect of April Fools.

Oh and Weta Digital, IMHO the best digital animation house in the world. So I'm eagerly anticipating this one.
