I just showed this to my 10th grade class. At the start I told them he'd raised $7300 for his scholarship fund, and by the time we'd finished the video, ten minutes later, it was up to $8300, so this is a great story in the making.

I used to make little "pinball" machines at his age, with box-tops, elastics, pencils and marbles. But this kid is an imagination god!

When I was in fourth grade for a class project, I made a computer out of cardboard with scrollable screen with a wheel or something. It was based on my real Apple //c.

Lann says...

I did the same thing with a classmate around 2nd grade. We made "computer games" by drawing on cards and taping them to the "screen" and then trading them. Can't figure out why no one else wanted in on that action. What's so great about kick ball anyway?>> ^ant:

Funny,
I did the exact same thing, with wood planks, elastic bands and laundry pins.

The dad is a role model for supportive parenting

Love, Encouragement, and belief - even giving over part of his shop to his kids dream.

spoco2 jokingly says...

Awww, fuck man, how is life ever going to match up to that now? Caine's going to be having a life of drugs and booze in an attempt to match the magic of that experience.

Poor kid, they fucked him up!

I used to sew black ninja-suits for my TMNT figures.

Anyone else feel that this was soooooooo stereotypically Mexican?? I sense a strong DIY-build-EVERYTHING-out-of-ANYTHING-attitude-to-stretch-the-budget-mentality from his parent. I know that few of my Hispanic friends often like to make their own wallets out of folded duct tape and sewing their own clothes to make it look unique.

What I'm saying is that if this kid was born in the suburbs of Palo Alto going to an Apple Inc. funded school, he would've had better equipment and resources to play with and probably was in line to be the next Bill Gates.

Jinx says...

I hope his dad gets some of that moolah, after all, it is on his real estate :3.

No but srsly, Dad did good. Can't imagine there are a lot of people that would let their kid build all over their shop front.

$130K. It will crack $200K easily as this filters through the interwebs. That should get him a masters.

...but then, you have to remember he'll be graduating Class of 2021. $200K won't do shit.

God damn, I'm such a fucking cynic.

That's only nine years. It'll do plenty, and more if he does better than leave it in a cardboard box.>> ^Payback:

Oh, I don't know, his current portfolio of cardboard futures seem strong...
