CGR's On This Day In Gaming - July 7, Metal Gear Released

"Classic Game Room presents CGR's ON THIS DAY IN GAMING! On July 7, 1987, Metal Gear was released by Konami on the MSX2 in Japan. Hideo Kojima's landmark title would introduce the concept of stealth action to gaming, of sneaking rather than shooting. With its realism and sense of vulnerability, the game would begin to steer the medium in a more cinematic direction, archetypal stories making way for franchises like Grand Theft Auto. The stealth genre itself was to enjoy massive success thanks to Metal Gear with inspired hits like Splinter Cell and Hitman, and many others."
