JanuariYeah i totally would have kept working too... right after i ran home crying to get a new pair of skivvies...
All kidding aside i would have gone no where near this to begin with... brave folks... no doubt...
I am wondering if anyone knows... why didn't they keep putting water on it?... i mean it was still burning right?...
TrancecoachThing is, once there's one explosion, the likelihood is much higher that there will NOT be another explosion.
The vehicle had already blown its wad, as it were.
TheSluiceGateCigarette lighter in shot on the balcony wall - VERY SUSPICIOUS!
schlub"Firefighters put their lives on the line every day". *sigh* Just being a firefighter does not make you a hero. Nor does it mean your life's on the line all the time. It's not that dramatic. There was an explosion where he didn't get hurt... of course he kept going...
NicoleBeeThis is a guess, but I think they stopped because the remaining fire was all in the engine compartment, and they were waiting to cut open the hood so they could apply water there instead.

Sodiun Azide is used in airbags. Highly toxic and becoming an environmental problem.
jwrayIsn't spraying water on a gasoline fire as dumb as throwing water on a pot of burning oil? They need CO2 or the powder stuff.
messengerIt may be dumb to put water on a gas fire (Is it though? Is gasoline still considered an oil?), but this is a plastic, rubber and upholstry fire. If they were using the wrong stuff, the fire wouldn't be going out -- it'd be spreading.>> ^jwray:

jmdsays...Gas may be involved in alot of fires, but that wont stop firefighters from using water as the main fighting component. It may not stop gas from burning, but usually its everything else burning the firefighters have a problem with.
I am not really THAT impressed with the clip, the guy has a shatter proof face mask on and fire retardent gear, he prolly felt nothing more then a slight pop. I would have kept working as well..after all I'm the guy with a big farking hose of water, I prolly would be like "Oh you want a piece of this?!"
No disrespect to firefighters though, both them and police (when not harassing blacks on the sidewalk) put their LIVES on the line, so props as always.
