Backing Out of Garage Fail

17 year old girl trying to back out of the garage...this makes me nervous

My wife has the same complete lack of spacial awareness. She's fine with normal driving and is a safer and more considerate driver than I am but when it comes to thinking ahead in a situation like this forget it.

I actually have a lot of sympathy for her. I would bet that no one actually showed her what was involved with backing up a vehicle in a confined space. It is easy for us to forget those First Time challenges with driving, especially when there was someone in the car with her. Usually that adds self-imposed, extra pressure to the situation. I hope that someone takes the time to help her through it as her ability to back up in a garage doesn't have much bearing on her skills on the road.

Why did she stop after that first backing out? If she'd just kept going, she'd have been fine, first go, done!

I thought there must have been something in the way to the left (our left) of the door, but in the end you see her back around that corner and there's nothing there... man, what a load of farnakaling around for no reason.

Yeah it seems like the biggest fail is that her copilot is a little boy. Everyone sucks at driving when they're new. But at least her parents could be bothered to upload it to youtube.

It is a spatial awareness problem indeed. I see many drivers do this thing where they reverse to pull out and then begin re-turning the wheel mid way, then are baffled when they move forward and find they haven't turned the car enough to clear the obstacle. So they reverse back the other way, un-doing the majority they had turned and then they'll perform that same micro movement a few times until they finally manage to clear it. The "omigods" are the ones that don't make enough of a micro movement and end up stuck in a loop. That's also super common with parallel parking.

The other problem is people hate being told how to drive, I tried to kindly correct this a few times but I always get barked at, so I've stopped trying. Some people are also just supremely unconfident with their ability and it is difficult for them to break out of that, especially when each failure only increases the pressure.

Total real world elapsed time 18:06 to 18:15.

Nine minutes total... and almost half of the video -- 4 minutes! -- at 2:11, the part of HIM screwing around, of Big Strong Man Saving Wife, is cut out?

Something stinks, mysoginistically.

I actually think that most of the problems on the road (accidents and delays) are caused by people who just don't understand the dimensions of their car, even when they're going at a few miles an hour.

It takes a while to get used to them, so if you're new to driving or the car then it's not a terrible thing, but i completely disagree that it doesn't reflect on the person's driving skill.

This is just LMFAHS hilarious, but it should be flagged NSFW. I was trying very hard to contain myself but I simply couldn't hold in my laughter.

Me too man. I don't think I could have gotten the car that far out of position if I was TRYING to.
