I think most of it's valid. That type of slang (Cockney rhyming slang) is based on rhymes, so they use phrases like "trouble and strife" to mean wife, "apples and pears" means stairs, and "pork pies" means lies. Some of it really was just ???? though, to me at least.

Yep most of that is rhyming cockney. And it's not all straight rhymes either. When Michal Caine calls Mike Myers "My old china", he actually calls him "mate".

"My old china" -> "My old (china) plate" <-> "My old mate"

Funny people, the English.
