rhino's have very bad eyesight and a brain that is primitive. If spooked they would likely charge. Water Buffalo's have very bad eyesight and a brain that is primitive. They are also in a constant state of being pissed off. So likely the buffalo saw something that looked like another buffalo and wanted to display dominance over it, which was a poor decision.
