Afghani War Rug Exhibit

"War Rugs" is the term used to describe rugs produced in Afghanistan and in the refugee camps of Pakistan and Iran, following the Russian Invasion of Afghanistan in 1979. The decorative style shown on these rugs is one of war iconography, and reflects the world of the Afghan weavers during the Russian occupation of their country, which ceased in 1989.
