Adaptation: Brian Cox brilliantly Destroys Nicholas Cage

One of the best scenes from one of my favorite movies ever. The great screen writer Robert McKee (Brian Cox) absolutely sucks up and spits out Charlie's (Nick Cage) soul.

When I watched this scene for the first time, it proved to me how utterly useless my screenwriting tutor was. Getting a first at university in writing/screenwriting felt so hollow because of how utterly brilliant Robert McKee is, how much he has since taught me about the craft.

I love how the film tries to rebel so thoroughly against McKee 'principles', directly acknowledges how risky this is, then goes over-the-top to follow the guidelines in the climax (except for the alligator, of course). Great metamovie...

... and Chris Cooper! Good-God! there is no point where I think that Chris Cooper is an actor playing a role in this film... he's just is this peculiar character.
