Earlier this year a music concert was held in Tokyo, however while the band was real, the singer was not. The concert was held for the vocaloid Hatsune Miku as well as all of her "friends" (Technically it is the same software package using different vocal source files for each virtual singer).

I am not a big fan of Hatsune (I think her voice is to high), but alot of things in this particular video and the event as a whole interested me. The music, which consisted of their best performances on the web, was supplied by a live band and a large projection screen projected the singers performance. Detail wise the singer models (and wardrobes) are not much different then what you see in miku miku dance, but good lighting and well motion captured choreography (If japan pop music has mastered anything, it is dance routines) provides a quality visual performance.

In the end, its another step in the direction of creating completely fabricated music artist. Much like youtube has already done, there are MANY song writers and performers out there but without the eye candy (read, hot 16 year old chick as your lead singer) it can be hard to create that breakthrough performance and get yourself known.
