What Kind Of Asian Are You?

Was in a little cafe in Koyasan, Japan a few years back with the family. The waiter brought out a plate of fried potatoes saying it was 'service' (free) We tucked in, grateful for the extra snack, only to hear behind us, a couple of older locals saying, "Gee those foreigners love their fried potatoes". We chuckled to ourselves. We'd actually ordered the Japanese style dim sums.

Similarly Stephen Fry shows fascination for the way water flows, in his series Fry in America, when he visits the Rockies and marvels at how on either side of the Great Divide, the water always flows in opposite directions.

It was a great series, as was Long Way Down, where they ride from John'O Groats, Scotland, to Cape Town. I was surprised that they persisted with the loaded-up BMWs in the second series, though. The bikes were totally unsuitable for sandy/muddy conditions-way too heavy.

> Pregnant women are gross
I'm not with ya on that one. Women look gorgeous pregnant. Maybe its ingrained evolutionary results speaking from my reptilian brain. What could be more feminine than a big pregnant belly.

Reading this makes me so happy, Deathcow! Love to you and your family.

This is an excellent series. I saw it recently, after watching a similar doco last year,'On the Trail of Genghis Khan', by an Australian who rode from Mongolia to Hungary on a horse. Both fascinating, yet very different. The motorbike trek took 3 months, the horse trek took three years. Ewan and his friend Charlie had huge amounts of expensive equipment and a support crew. Tim had three horses, a tent, a dog and a satelite phone. Each had their own unique set of problems. All of them were pushed to new limits. Excellent stuff.
