Symphony of Science - 'We Are All Connected'

The first time I saw this video, I was a first year law student, lamenting that I hadn't taken the road not traveled. For about a week straight, I would play this as soon as I woke up to get right and face the day. Sometimes it brought tears to my eyes. Right now, I am writing this message in my high school science lab, with the video playing up on the overhead. My students asked me why I became a high school science teacher when I have a license to practice law. This is my answer.

Dude, this is so much better than just the Brad Garrett part. Brad Garrett's father in Everybody Loves Raymond was played by the late, great Peter Boyle. Peter Boyle played the iconic Frankenstein's monster (seen here) in Mel Brooks's Young Frankenstein. Cool little connection.

You thought right.

In a fitting coincidence, today was the last day of prep before my first class of students arrives on Monday. I took a job as a high school science teacher at a school for kids who have been kicked out of their zoned schools for academic and behavioral issues--students others have written off and worse. I've been watching and passing around the Taylor Mali and Rives performances all week. After years fighting what I now believe to have been my destiny all along, for the first time in a long time, I feel I am doing what I am supposed to be doing.

Thanks for the heads-up on the link.

Oh look, a three hour epic based on roughly two paragraphs in the best book ever written that has nothing to do with fighting a dragon or armies at all!

Not even gonna watch the trailer.
