Ha. Yeah, the anti-terrorism acts are quite the broad legislation. You only need be suspected by any underachieving asshole in a uniform. And I love how Greenwald and the Guardian are handing this situation. UK is looking more and more like their former imperialist selves these days. Maybe they'll colonize India again to keep it safe from terrorism again. They can save Bangladesh for the US Empire.

Speaking of England and their imperialism and all that, I met Jim Sheridan last night. He's the Irish director who made In the Name of the Father and My Left Foot. Great guy.

Nice idea but those in charge are simply too rich to give a crap about the downfall of the US Empire. They bleed this country dry but in the end, like a Tick, they can move on to another host. You're dealing with super wealthy single individuals and corporations. They have control over they country but no liability towards it. The US government is just an investment.

And regarding Snowden? He should learn to sleep with one eye open. His civil rights are nonexistant at this point.

I see a lot of self-righteous posturing over this trivial snippet of video. When the debate for raising taxes and increasing government's scope is about lifting up the fringes of society, those in favor of raising taxes like to thump their chests with indignation and take the grossly sanctimonious position their somehow kinder, morally superior and more generous.

But this is misdirection and a deceptive argument they play. Because they rarely point out that the majority of your taxes are already spent on things you dislike like militarism, hegemony and building the US empire. Yet they speak barely at all in objection to that.

The conundrum: either raise taxes to pay for an unsustainable amount of government spending or cut spending and not raise taxes?

When the US government stops spending more than the rest of the world's governments, I'll consider this guy's notion to raise taxes to fund our unsustainable budgets. Until then, why not focus your efforts on ending the war and shrinking the US empire. Think of all the money we'd save!

Why do informative videos never inspire comments and debate? QM is amazingly quiet on actual thoughtful videos.

Is it better to try to save the US empire or let it fall to make way for a new empire? Or even to have no empires at all?

As a Canadian none of these options are good ones. Our economy is so tied to the US that its fall would take us down too. But the influence of US politics is ruining our culture and changing our political culture to one of secrecy and lies. But Canada has always leeched off empires and defined itself by emulating the empire and rejecting it at the same time. So without an empire to follow Canada has no identity.

While most people don't give shits about Canada I'm sure we are not the only country that will have to redefine itself after the US empire ends.

This kind of action really pisses me off. It is a perfect representation of the Canadian government today. The unpopular minority government manipulates public opinion by any means they can. And shoves through policy after policy that the general public disagrees with. The Canadian political system is not working properly. The leadership of both the conservatives and liberals are US empire expansionist corporate hacks. Canada does not have a unique foreign policy anymore. We were on the right side of things with apartheid at the time, and an honest broker between Palestine and Israel, but not anymore.
