Fat out-of-shape cop can't catch fleeing suspect on foot.

Now that I go back and read your comment again, I see I mis-read it and shouldn't have downvoted. My bad.
I too have served in Iraq and Afghanistan, and my tour in Iraq was no picnic. For several years, I wanted to be a cop, and I would still like to, but I have come to realize though introspection and professional help that constant mortaring has re-wired my brain to the point where I should not be a police officer. It has left me with an extremely short temper, and that would most definitely lead to no good. I can only hope that others in my position do the same.
Semper (Fi/Paratus/whatever suits you).

And yes, for the record, I do believe that all capable persons have a moral obligation to help when possible.

Hey Marinegunrock, you have a right to downvote my comment, and I have no problem with that. Still, I would like to explain a bit about my comments---because I think you might have the wrong impression (I tend to fuck up on expressing my thoughts.)
Soldiers and Marines returning from overseas have two types of medals. Those they wear on their chests, and those they wear in their minds. They live life on the edge in a warzone. I don't remember a day my unit wasn't mortared over in Iraq--but I served nevertheless. That does not mean I, or other servicemen, adjusted well upon return... And they certainly were not ready for a career in law enforcement!!!
However, instead of wearing this mental medal proudly, instead of saying, "I am a motherfucking Marine or Soldier, I have issues," people are saying, "Hey, I went through hell and came back flawless. Love me please."
Just because we are heroes doesn't mean we are right in the brain my friend. You have to be wrong in the head, or you don't survive--or you get others killed...

Don't worry Marinegunrock, for every one good comment out there---there are one-million ignorant comments. In other words, in a world of trolls, it takes a constantly keen eye to tell between the shit and the diamonds. Hell, I don't even have half the time, so I learn the people when I can... In fact, that's why I explained myself to you---because I can see you post reasonably.

I am greatly impressed that truth matters to you more than blind-emotions Marinegunrock; I am honestly impressed. Few people would admit any problems anywhere, and that's why we as people, and this country, have so many--we break em, but we don't attempt to solve them.

Unreal Engine Tech Demo : Computer graphics of tomorrow

you're forgetting "quickly irritated by smarminess and superiority complexes." settle down.

sorry for hijacking the thread...

ah, I see, yes that is impressive

That didn't look any different from "the graphics of today" to me. Now if that were gameplay footage I would agree, but cinematics of that quality seem pretty common already

That was a game engine tech demo, not a cinematic. So technically it was "in-game". Proceed with being impressed...

wrong, I didn't know what a "tech demo" was, and thanks for the "help," anus. wolfie and ellessar already clarified the matter.

I see you don't understand the difference between prerendered CGI cinematics and a real time cutscene.

I see you also have a short temper and a childish penchant for name calling.

Unemployment Benefits Keep People From Looking For Jobs?

Stormsinger says...

>> ^GeeSussFreeK:
Nice to know that the system is so broken that only certain people get what they pay for in their time of need. And FYI, I am not conservative.
Edit: Ok you are a have been victimized by my misplaced rage. You have nothing to do with the system being complete ship, and for that I am sorry. I am mad that my money has been essentially stolen from me. Unemployment is a joke, everyone pays it, only very few people can ever reap it. It is a complete load of horse apples.

Understood, and accepted. I find I have a much greater understanding of rage and anger than I did even two years ago. As you may have noticed from my own tendency to spout off. Sad to say, tough times make us all short-tempered.

Thanks for helping me recover my own balance, man. My hat's off to you.

Who wants chowdah? (Kids Talk Post)

thinker247 says...

Okay, so I'm ending this shindig and handing out the awards.

Gold: EDD, who gets three promotes for his story, because it involved math and striking back at authority (two of my favorite hobbies).

Silver: UsesProzac, for her courageous battle with the supreme darkness that is education mistresses with short tempers and low IQs.

Bronze: Ornthoron, because I just can't bear to leave him without a medal.

Fourth: videosiftbannedme, because I also did the same thing with orange juice and Diet Pepsi. Luckily I didn't have a mammy who forced me to drink it all. Cheers!

Fifth: Throbbin, because that was the perfect "feel-good" story I was looking for.

And last, but not least, we have Fusionaut for his gate story. Thanks for hanging in there.

Honorable mention: Rasch, who quoted my favorite song, but forgot that Crowns get nothing from me!

And longde, millions of children around the world are out back, ready to kick your ass.

Thanks everyone! See you next time I have eight promotes!

Officially Declared a Security Risk by the US Embassy (Blog Entry by Farhad2000)

rougy says...

I don't know, Farhad, missing a party crammed full of US marines could be looked upon as a blessing in disguise.

Imagine Romper Room where all the kids are drunk, short-tempered, and can kill with their bare hands.

And, yes, the US is strange and hypicritical, and that's putting it nicely.

This is for thepinky, who doesn't read my blog. (Blog Entry by UsesProzac)

I can't imagine how daunting books must seem to you! No, I don't profess to be nearly as interesting as a good book.

That's because you agree with her. I'm sure she's nice to her friends and that does her credit! I've read some of her comments that I thought were good and funny. I've even upvoted a few of them. But the real test is how she treats those she doesn't like. (Admittedly, I fail that test all of the time.) You are perfectly welcome to think that she is a good girl. I will probably go on disliking her until I have developed Christ-like charity, so don't try to convince me.

Of course I'm a common denominator in confrontations on the Sift! I'm an overly-opinionated/religious/conservative/idealistic/slightly feminist/short-tempered/overly passionate/often immature 21-year-old! But I'm NOT a troll.

Teacher Rejects the Madness of No Child Left Behind.

theaceofclubz says...

Standardized tests are created with producing a bell curve in the test taking population. A bell curve is very informative as to where the limitations lie in a population. A standardized test that produces a decaying exponential is not. Either the wrong test was administered to the students or the teachers at whatever school are that good. He never mentioned appealing or having the students independently tested. I don't know that much about the "No Child Left Behind Act," but if neither of those avenues exist then it is fucked.

As to whether or not a privatized educational system is preferable, I feel I'm a mixed bag. I do think having a diversification of educational options for children is beneficial for the populace, however I also feel that the Federal Gov. should guarantee and ensure a base level education for the populace. I'm still young so I remember being taught by the tired short-tempered bigot as well as I remember the wonderful teachers that truly inspired me. The inspiring teachers were definitely on short supply. The criticism is always launched that professional athletes make more than elite teachers. Perhaps with a more privatized education system this could be alleviated.

As I stated earlier i would not endorse giving corporations free reign to indoctrinate the next generation. I'm in favor of amendment or law requiring a separation of corp. and state with regards to education. I would require a federal base minimum of educational requirements for all schools (sorry creationists). I would like more options. Instead of St. Jude's or St. Mary's, I would like a Sir Newton's.

Playgirl Comes to the End of Its Road

Obsidianfire says...

Sorry, you weren't being civil. You made a comment to someone who felt uncomfortable with you doing so, then when you saw it upset people, instead of apologizing you did this. There is nothing else to discuss here. You made an offhanded sexual remark towards a woman on the internet and now you're upset because you see your words actually effect others. I will protect my girl at all costs. I will admit I overreacted. Like I said I'm really protective of my girl. I apologize for flying off the handle but this shit happens ALL THE TIME on other websites. Someone hits on my girl just because she's female. I reacted to this in the same way I reacted to more extreme forms of sexual comments. It's hard to say whether it was considered sexual harassment, but it's unwelcome sexual attention. What else could you have possibly meant by your comment other then "If you don't like hunks, I'm pale and scrawny, let's talk." I didn't like it, she didn't like it, that's what matters. I shouldn't have been rude about it, but I have other things going on in my life that affect my mood where I'm short tempered. Do me a favor and don't talk to my girl in a sexual manner unless you know her and know she is comfortable with that kind of humor. It'd be best to follow that rule for any member of the opposite sex you meet but I'm not going to tell you how to live your life. I WILL tell you what's crossing the line in my and my girl's life though.

As for LittleRed, this will be the second time I'm going to report you for your trolling. You literally have nothing to do with this conversation but you managed to shove your nose right in it. None of this was directed towards you, and for you to repeatedly post rude comments on my user page when I've asked nicely for you to cease, then taking a personal stab at my quality of life, that's considered harassment. Don't be hypocritical. What I did was immature, but you're calling the kettle black with that comment.

Corretta Scott King

BlueGeorgeWashington says...

A GREAT speech! Dr. Martin Luther King would have been very proud of his wife. All those who are prone to violence should take heed as to what the honorable Mrs. King says. Malcolm X and the Black Panthers should have listened to Dr. King and his wife.

It is a terrible shame (and dishonor to the "King Legacy") that MANY "Black History" courses taught in today's Universities and schools have become thinly veiled courses in racism against White Culture fostering hate (by teachers wanting to sell their book) instead of integrative understanding of history as a whole.

And in today's world adherents to Islam have developed an increasingly "short temper and trigger finger" of intolerance of any and all appropriate criticism of the wide spread ideology of reactive mindless violence being taught in todays Islam to young Muslims.

Kudos to the Ghandi's and King's of history who teach a non-violent way of achieving your rights, hopes and dreams. We NEED to learn to live together in PEACE.
