Free, White and 21: Buried Catchphrase of Classic Hollywood

ulysses1904 jokingly says...

Apparently back then catchphrases lasted a decade, whereas memes become cliches before the paint is even dry.

Let's watch as some SJWs petition to have all these movies recalled and edited. I've been waiting for someone to make a big deal about Elmer Fudd in drag in "The Big Snooze", because somebody's feelings might be hurt by the irreverent depiction of a guy in a dress. Same for "Some like it Hot".

What the Duck?!? This is INSANE!

I think I saw her crack a smile when he said donkey-punch.

From now on, portrait photographers everywhere will replace "say cheese" with "say donkey punch", how can you not smile when saying donkey punch, unless maybe, you're a member of PETA.
George Carlin once made a case for the idea that just about anything can be joked about, even rape, he then presented us with the image of Porky Pig raping Elmer Fudd, and I totally lost it.

Thanks for the link, I have heard of this one but haven't seen it, will check it out. I have seen "Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips" and on Youtube there are some of the racist clips, like Bugs Bunny in "Southern Fried Rabbit", where he pretends to be a slave in front of Yosemite Sam.

On the same subject, one thing I noticed firsthand was for the longest time in the early 70s the TV would show the complete cartoon where Elmer Fudd plays a Canadian Mountie and at the end he has Bugs Bunny in front of a firing squad. He asks Bugs if he has any last requests and Bugs says "I wish......I wish.......I wish I was in Dixie" and it cuts to a scene in a cotton field with several guys in black face singing "Camptown Ladies". Then one day they stopped showing the final scene, they would cut to the closing "That's All Folks" right after Bugs says "I wish I was in Dixie".

I was confused at first at the change, then slowly figured out why they stopped showing that final scene. Let me see if I can find it online.

thanks again for the link.

By the way, have you ever seen "Coal Black and de Sebben Dwarfs"?.

It's one of the "Banned Eleven" Looney Tunes that are considered too blatantly derogatory to black people to syndicate. Video link is below. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Censored_Eleven

Sesame Street Pulls Controversial Katy Perry Duet with Elmo

TheFreak says...

Yes of course, the human body is disgusting and must be hidden. Breasts are dirty and unnatural and children should be protected from seeing them. After all, how are children going to learn to be properly ashamed of their bodies if they see adults who do not hide their bodies in shame.

If Sesame Street ever dared to show something like this I'd have no choice but to protect my children by having them watch...I dunno, maybe Tom and Jerry cartoons or Elmer Fudd and Bugs Bunny...something with a healthy dose of good old fashioned explosions, guns and violence.

Knives, guns, pain, violence...that'll help them grow into good strong Americans who can carry on the fight against this kind of outrageous display of the human body.

This is Who Elmer Fudd replaced due to Stereotyping charac

The blackface-like coloring probably ought to count, too, but I was more surprised by how little racism/stereotyping was present. In many ways, this guy is just like Fudd, only darker.

I'd be interested to hear opinions of any black sifters, in particular.

Other then the spontaneous dice game.. I really don't see a problem with any of it.
Is this cartoon supposed to be more appalling than the actual racism and violence taking place at the time?

Even without factoring in (or out) the offensive racist stereotypes, Elmer Fudd is a lot funnier and a better foil for Bugs than this fellow. I'm glad they made the change if only for that reason.
