Good parenting

newtboy says...

Are they disrespectful? Yes.
Is their behavior acceptable? No.
Will it hurt their future if not corrected? Absolutely.
Is that why I think YOU chose to post this particular video? No, I believe it’s because you think it reinforces your world view that includes sentiments like the one you quoted above….” I'm baffeled as to why people insist these creatures can live on equal terms with humans.”…you actually said you just think that MIGHT possibly be racist, it’s “iffy”, but I think you agree with the idea, and the others I listed above that you somehow inexplicably don’t find at all racist too.

There is a similarity in the people you single out as “the problem” vs those you excuse for similar actions…it’s not their behavior, it’s their skin color. It’s too consistent that you use non whites as examples of criminality and excuse whites for similar or worse actions to be coincidental. I think you really believe all non whites are just born criminals, and white criminals are mostly framed. I think you wear blinders that won’t let you see anything else.

Bad parenting….explain. Because their parents may need 3 jobs to pay rent and feed them, and they’re unsupervised?
Sounds like government sponsored daycare might be something you would support….but I bet you don’t.
Sounds like funding a variety of after school programs would save tons of money and stop crime, but I doubt you support them either.
Both together are insanely cheaper than police, prisons, and high crime.

@kir_mokum hit the nail on the head. You vote and advocate to remove all pathways to advancement then blame the needy for falling behind.

I know that they are disrespectful.
You and @newtboy find this acceptable.

They will grow up and end up like this kid. All due to bad parenting.

Apparently you like this kind of behavior .. Your ok with it?

JUSTICE On 'n' On (F'in AMAZING)

eric3579 says...

Well that's weirdly coincidental you bringing up Alan Parsons. I just so happened to have been listening to my APP playlist today while running. I Robot (the song) always puts me in the zone. I still like this song, probably because it reminds me in some way of progressive rock music of my youth. I'll take what i can get.

Maybe more to your liking https://videosift.com/video/Alan-Parsons-Project-I-Robot

Song is very genereric, and a very poor Alan parsons ripoff. I don’t get it.

Coincidentally, this is one of the sites i used to regular prior to social media and widespread smartphone use. I think taht's why I keep it on my regular loaded tabs. Can't find all of my comments because of siftpocalypse or siftmageddon or whatever we called it when the servers went poof~! Ive lost a hard drive or two in my day. Rough stuff.

Speaking of which, we should make an effort to revive this site and get some more sifters sifting. We do have something unique here, something I miss from record stores and Blockbuster, actual human curators of content.

^ we don't have algorythms, we have voting
We don't have bots, we have people

I, for one, am sick of over-monetized-bullshit that all sounds the same constantly being shoved in my face, so i end up here. Maybe some of us are still affected by the crazy propaganda bug, +cough cough+ but the debates look closer to an actual townhall than one infected with too much nonsense for its own good.

Perhaps this would be better in a sift talk post. :-p

How the Mario Characters Got Their Names | Gaming Historian

newtboy says...

Ok, they can say that and maybe it’s true, but I just want to point out that in the amazing 1953 French film, The Wages of Fear, the main characters are Mario and Luigi, and Luigi looks just like super Mario down to the hat (the Mario character is played by Yves Montand, a skinny French actor). I’ve always found that to be far too coincidental.

NYC's Anti-Vax Rally in 49 Seconds

newtboy says...

Lemme guess, you don't care about that when it comes to remdesvir, which is not FDA approved, costs in the neighborhood of 4000 times as much (with profit margins to match) and known side effects are worse including....
Back pain
chest tightness
chills
cough
dark-colored urine
difficulty swallowing
fast heartbeat
fever
flushing
headache
hives, itching
light-colored stools
nausea and vomiting
puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
stomach pain, continuing
trouble breathing
unusual tiredness or weakness
yellow eyes or skin
Seizures
skin rash

People have severe side effects often enough that you have to wait under observation for an hour after getting it to be sure you don't need medical help.
You can't sue them either, but I'm sure that also doesn't matter to you because Republicans told you to take it instead of an FDA approved vaccine (and just coincidentally they and their major donors all own shares in the manufacturer).

TangledThorns said:

Big pharma makes billions from the vaccine. Best part is they can't be sued if you die from the vaccine.

How it Starts

newtboy says...

Had he said anti fascist, he would have gotten 1/5.
To be honest, 1.5/5 because I do support some level of socialism, but I know he's talking the failed Venezuela style of absolutist dictatorial socialism where a totally corrupt government simply nationalized industry then mismanaged the nation into bankruptcy, not the kind we already enjoy in America that creates and funds our infrastructure, social services, military, and in fact our government that rarely converts private holdings to government property (stealing people's land for Trump's fence notwithstanding), that coincidentally is also leading the nation into bankruptcy due to criminal mismanagement.

Antifa is not really the same thing, it's barely a thing, and exactly what it is or isn't isn't a game I'm getting sucked into, it's a trap.

People can claim it's anything and pretend it's your (or my) responsibility to prove them wrong, but antifa as a movement (there is no organization by that name) is so open, disparate, unfocused, and undefined (imo all by design) that saying you stand with or against them only opens yourself to accusations of supporting anything under the sun (including the multiple acts of terrorism perpetrated by right wing extremists masquerading as antifa) with no clear defense. I'm not playing that game.

I am definitely anti fascist. I reserve my opinion on antifa until it's properly defined, which is likely never.

EVERYONE should be anti-fascist, but Trump supporters LOVE fascism. So there's that...

Is Our Food Becoming Less Nutritious?

transmorpher says...

This guy needs to read Proteinaholic by Dr. Garth Davis instead of getting his science from the CSIRO which has lost most of it's government funding and is now industry funded and coincidentally publishing protein fears and promoting animal product consumption quite heavily.....

Who would have thought bad things would happen to science when the Prime Minister of Australia is a Hillsong Christian nutbag.

Khruangbin: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

MilkmanDan says...

"Khruangbin" means "airplane" in Thai (literally "machine" khruang + "fly" bin, "flying machine"). So, I assumed it was a Thai band when I saw the name (or that it was in another language and coincidentally like the word in Thai). Interesting that they were inspired by Thai music, which pretty much verifies the origin of the name...

Post-viewing edit:
There's definitely some connections to Thai Country/Folk "Lookthung" music in there, but plenty of other influences also. First song sounded Surf-y to me. I dig the bass in all of 'em.

Judge Cristina Perez - Neighborhood Watch v HighSchool Kid

eric3579 says...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Justice_for_All_with_Judge_Cristina_Perez
Justice for All is a staged court show. At the end of the program, a standard disclaimer is shown which states that "All characters displayed are fictional and any resemblance to actual persons is coincidental."

If i had known it was all made up i surely wouldn't have voted for something so toxic.

@lucky760 can you please remove my vote(if possible).

Not sure how he's a trigger happy vigilante...do shovels have triggers now?

It's worth mentioning this is likely scripted, and not real. A real defendant would be insane to volunteer that race was such a factor, or that he attacked a kid with a weapon from behind.
Googling their names, or neighborhood watch attack with shovel turns up nothing. Seems like this would have been big news if it happened.
Color me suspicious.

1929 - Interviews With Elderly People Throughout The US

ulysses1904 says...

I enjoyed this. Coincidentally this weekend I was Googling my grandfather's name. Found a newspaper entry in Cooperstown, NY in January 1933 where it listed my grandparents spending an evening playing bridge at someone's house with a dozen other couples. Listed all their names and who won a prize that evening. It was about 5 months before my dad was born, reminded me of how different things were back then. Made me wish I was a fly on the wall.

Whitehouse Admits Tax Plan Saves Trump,Tens Of Millions Year

newtboy says...

Bullshit....they were asked and they answered honestly that they'll save millions per year, said repeatedly and clearly it helps the rich, and they're rich.
Trump and Republicans just flatly lied about the bill.
He just lied, blatantly, daily, about tax law that affects us all....lied about who it benefits (him) and who it hurts (anyone making under $150k, and every American citizen because it bankrupts the nation) and you ignore it? Be assured I'll bring this up the next 3 dozen times you complain about liberals being less than perfectly truthful.

Damn straight members would have voted against it....because it's a horrific swindle that will bankrupt us quickly....I know that makes you happy, Dimitri, but Americans are pretty pissed.

He wouldn't be damned if he had signed the law he claimed it was, he's damned because he's a consummate, pathological liar. You are damned because you support that no matter what the lie is.

My holiday was tarnished by a big orange baby and his cadre of anti American idiots destroying my country's finances and likely starting a class war. It will only be great again when we eat the rich (or force feed them to their families)....I don't think that will take 3 years at this point if things continue on this road to bankruptcy. $1.5 TRILLION to the DEFICIT...that's $15 TRILLION in 10 years for one person's gain (anyone else that gains is coincidental, this was written specifically to benefit Trump and his family.). You can't ever complain that liberals or democrats are financially irresponsible again....never. You support lying to the country so your guy can bankrupt the country for personal gain. No patriotic American would do that. If you aren't Russian trying to harm America, you're almost certainly a traitorous moron. I see no other possibility.

bobknight33 said:

They ( other politicians) haven't been asked.

If Trump would have said Yep I will benefit bigley. The media wound piled on even more and might even sway some members to vote against it.

Gather damn if you do damn if you don't.

Hope you had a great holiday.

South Park: The Whites

Do Trey and Matt surf the sift?
Bob White, a Trump supporter that rudely spouts fake news, hyperbole, baseless political attacks, and pure misdirection to defend the indefensible acts of the president.
Seems more than coincidental.

No single terror attack in US by countries on Trump ban list

bcglorf says...

The 'tenuours connection' has not been debunked. The evidence president Obama had access to was enough to order Anwar's assassination from even.

Anwar al-Awlaki and the Fort Hood shooter met in person at the mosque Anwar was then an Imam at. Following that the shooter emailed Awlaki back and forth, but the contents of the email's has been kept closed. Anwar's praise and blessing of the attack immediately afterwards though is kind of telling.

That then combines with Anwar's past before that, where he was an Imam at 2 separate mosques attended by 3 of the 9/11 hijackers. One of those is the same mosque where he also met the Fort Hood shooter...

Or back even before that in the late 90's when he was running a charity that was later declared a front for funnelling money to terrorists.

That's an awful lot of coincidental contact with terrorists. Combine that with the fact he went full on cheer leader for it all once he left US soil seems to tell enough. He was an active participant and conspirator to at least Fort Hood, and possibly many more attacks on the US and it's allies.

I'm sorry to say it, but Jeremy Scahill is pretty guilty of selectively presenting and showing only the facts that fit his arguments and leaves out a mountain of other extremely relevant information that would be inconvenient to his narrative.

@bcglorf
the story of anwar al awlaki is a little more complicated than he simply said some bad stuff, and the tenuous connection to the fort hood shooter has already been debunked.

now maybe anwar was truly guilty of inciting violence, and maybe he is responsible in some fashion, but we will never know.

jeremy scahill has done some of the best work in regards to that particular story, and i found this lecture the most insightful:
