Ghost in the Shell (2017) - Official Trailer

00Scud00 says...

Never heard of him before now, but even in Chinese history records of his voyages were scattered or omitted, due in part possibly because his voyages went against the wishes of a previous ruler. He made seven voyages between 1405 and 1433, the Wikipedia article mentions nothing about colonization efforts so that's probably why East Africa doesn't speak Chinese.
On the other side we have Christopher Columbus who was in all the history books here in America and was regularly celebrated. Until we got more honest with our history, now it's Indigenous People's Day in many places (That Italian Asshole Day just doesn't look as good on a calendar I guess).
If the Chinese had taken over the world then maybe we would be reading about someone else discovering the Americas (and probably called something else too) but as it stands Europeans did and that's who winds up in the history books.

So European culture is to blame for all this? You 'll have to be more specific, what have the Europeans done that nobody else have managed to do?

As far Johansson's role in the movie goes, I can take her or leave her really, they could have cast an Asian action star and I would have been fine with that. But the choice of Johansson was less about nerds like me and more about getting everyone else into the theater. Oh, and I think Idris Elba would make an awesome James Bond, just sayin.

Are you familiar with Zheng He? He led expeditions to east Africa in the early 1400s. Nobody in east Africa speaks chinese.
Of course you know Christopher Columbus. All of south America speaks spanish now. With the exception of Brazil, they speak portuguese thanks to some Pope, if I remember correctly.
That's what I'm talking about.
It's not the genes, it's not even the corruptive nature of power, it is culture. European culture. The only way we started to begin to understand the error of our ways was to wage two catastrophic wars against each other that destroyed our continent to an unseen extent. Sadly, we exported that toxic element of our culture to another continent. Just look at recent elections.

And in regards to the whitewashing of this IP, well, Hollywood doesn't trust its audience to embrace a more colorful world. It's gotten better but it's still a long way to go. At least we're going there. I just wish we'd hurry up a bit. I'm still baffeled about that Airbender movie and how they fucked up casting that so badly.
I like Johansson but she makes as much sense in that role as a black James Bond. It one of the things that make me hope the movie is good despite of it.

Are you implying that white people are shitty to everyone else because they are white? Or is it less about skin color and more about how a dominant culture/race treats and mistreats others?
No matter which group is currently dominant, power always corrupts.

TDS: Judge Andrew Napolitano Discusses Slavery with Jon

Yogi says...

If you provide evidence that's compelling and can be verified there is no reason why a serious academic shouldn't take it seriously. There are a lot of echochamber and lazy academic bullshit that bounces around. I'm not going to deny that I hate it and see it constantly.

But I cite again when Noam Chomsky makes an argument against something like that, he provides a mountain of fucking evidence. This video doesn't do that sir, it's a debate that should've been had after the material say a book or study or essay had been presented and a challenge had been thrown down. We've skipped a bunch of fucking steps here, we're basically sitting in a garage with some beers arguing whether or not Beiber should be legally sent back to Canada.

So far no one has been able to point me towards someone who's done serious academic work on this subject. Heck no one is even claiming like Donald Trump that they've already done the work on it.

To your point about Christopher Columbus, when I was in High School I found this out when I was given "A People's History of the United States." The reason why it was compelling to me was the shear volume of material on the subject as well as it's references. In contrast my history book had one paragraph on Christopher Columbus's finding of the nation, it was preposterous.

chingalera said:

Would you argue that whatever academics say about major world conflicts if they aren't parroting other agreed-upon-by-experts musings could be part of the overall codification of these events in world subconscious and conscious with a view to shaping minds for the next conflict to be orchestrated and implemented? The simple or complex aspects of any sacrificial lump of money and people can always be rendered into the essence of the insanity of the same with a simple and universally-agreed-upon homo-sapient common-sense.
Eveyone thinks 'ol Tom Edison was a goddamn genius and that Chris Columbus wasn't a complete cockbag posing as some ground-breaking explorer as well. What does the tinkerer and and a boat captain have in common? A lot of assholes have written tomes about both of them to deify them. One was an egotistical half-ass and the other a dirty fucking example of a Spaniard working for a cunt whore empire-builder.

ChaosEngine, your lack of any point reads COMPLETELY retarded.

What the Internet is Doing to Our Brains

poolcleaner says...

You could also blame books and homing pigeons -- Encyclopedia sets? Libraries? I spent many hours of my time as a child reading in these original information databases. I feel like the internet just brought a bunch of base fucks into a spectrum of reality that has always existed. Fucks that normally wouldn't spend their time consuming information in a database. Fucks that would market the shit out of every aspect of it. The perception of this video is a direct result of our internet being ground into dust.

At its mid-range potential, the internet is not much different than a library. I recall a lot of book-learned facts which are plain WRONG, including false and biased information, and unlabeled, incorrectly scaled maps being fairly constant. Yay Christopher Columbus! Yay happy natives! Yay dropping nuclear bombs on people! Yayyyyyyyyyyyyy

The internet brings ourselves closer and closer to instant, multi-perspective, peer-reviewed information, because we no longer need to thumb through catalogs, shelves, and pages, and everyone can contribute in a trusted, merit-based environment. Identify the fuckers of the internet. They pollute us with their bullshit. (I posit that I am not a fucker, I am merely disgruntled.)

One of my best friends is a librarian and the major difference he sees between Wikipedia and published books is that published books require new editions to replace outdated and incorrect information, potentially screwing over human memory for as long as that book isn't burned. (Sorry, rofl, I thought it was a funny way to phrase that. Plz don't burn books.)

The key is to avoid nonstop popular culture and focus on the vast educational potential of the internet.

And don't use social media.

And keep your mobile device's sound and vibration OFF. I love technology but don't let it reverse your human potential, let it augment. Focus on augmentation and factual checks & balances of the information you take in.

No to the conclusions from this video. No. No. NO! The net doesn't make us more superficial, we do and we always have.

Rocket Launches High into the Air and Lands Vertically

raverman says...

Reusable launch vehicles aren't flawed as a concept. They just require innovation that a bureaucratic risk averse govt organisation like NASA can't produce.

The space shuttles were designed in the 60s/70s, its like saying cars are unsafe because a government designed 80's car doesn't have a modern 5 star crash rating.

Captain Cook or Christopher Columbus would never have sailed if people worried about ships sinking or people dying.>> ^deedub81:

"reusable launch vehicles"
Just ask NASA how that worked out for them.

Hitch Provides Reasons to Doubt Theism

sme4r says...

Well written, but still factually biased. I don't dispute it takes a certain amount of faith to believe in something, but saying it takes more faith to believe in science over a religion is laughable, seeing as how most scientific processes can be duplicated in a lab, and the only time people see the immaculately concepted Jesus is in stale bread.

Calling them "errors" is an error, if you cant prove it so...

I don't even want to get started with your "#2" ...but I will touch on it:

"It is He [God] who sits above the circle of the Earth." Job also talked about the earth being round."
You mean to tell me that it wasn't the sun he probably was referring to? It is a very vague statement, loosely translated. I mean, wasn't the voyage of Christopher Columbus nearly defunded by the Queen of Spain due to the fact most of the Catholics believed the earth was flat? How could they possibly misinterpret such a factual document as the Bible then but not now, or at any other time?

#3 is also a gross interpretation of the bibles factuality, the closest thing people had to a science was alchemy if I'm mistaken, and there is a reason we don't teach Alchemy 101 these days. It was full of holes where we as a species didn't have an understanding of our own surroundings. Take beer brewing for example, even the German purity laws had to be amended to allow yeast as a viable and lawful ingredient to beer because the humans of the past flat out didn't understand or fathom its use/need in the brewing process because it had been introduced naturally to the unaware brewers since beer has been around. <-Thank you science, not the all knowing bible. External sources are just as unreliable then as they are now, if not more so, smart people expect some credibility, and aren't the type to blindly accept.
#4 "The history of the bible is made up, it is just mythology"
Most people don't dispute the correlation of events in the bible to that of actual history, its just obvious that either initially or over the years, the truth was embellished to that of an Aesop fable. The bible was meant to instill fear into the hearts of what are supposed to be "god fearing" people, what better way then writing about a hellish environment and 30 ft tall giants? (wait, was that part real, or no?) Oh and Nelson Glueck wrote that quote? Impressive... unless you consider the thousands of other scientists that have a slightly different opinion on the matter...

But I guess you can laugh at me while I burn in hell (decompose) and you are in heaven (decomposing) It would make much more sense if people would accept the fact that "God" no matter how you look at it, is just a manifestation of our own self righteousness as a species? That being said, please think "peace" and I to wish all of us a hearty blessing from "God."

>> ^shinyblurry:

It takes more faith to be an atheist than it does to be a Christian. I'll point out some common errors and misconceptions that atheists have.
Atheist error #1 Translation upon translation has corrupted the original bible so now we don't know what it actually said
The truth: Today there survives more than 25,000 partial and complete, ancient handwritten manuscript copies of the New Testament alone, not to mention hundreds of Old Testament manuscripts that survive today dating back to as early as the third century B.C. These hand written manuscripts have allowed scholars and textual critics to go back and verify that the Bible we have in our possession today is the same Bible that the early church possessed 2,000 years ago.

Atheist error #2 The bible is only confirmed by the bible, there is no outside external verification
The truth: There are over 39 sources outside of the Bible that attest to more than 100 facts regarding Jesus’ life, teachings, crucifixion, and resurrection. External sources verify that at least 80 persons from the bible were actual historical figures, 50 people from the Old Testament and 30 people from the New Testament. This includes Pontius Pilate, Caiaphas the High priest, and King David.
Atheist error #3 The bible is unscientific
The truth: The bible contains no scientific errors. In fact, it reveals a number of facts about the Universe that simply were not known at the time. For instance, the bible states that the Sun is on a circuit through space, yet scientists at the time thought it was stationary. Even more amazing, the bible states the Earth is round when everyone else thought it was flat:
Isaiah 40:22 says, “It is He [God] who sits above the circle of the Earth." Job also talked about the earth being round.
This was 300 years before aristotle. The bible was over 2000 years ahead of its time. It was also widely thought at the time that the Earth was carried on the back of something else, like a turtle or the greek god Atlas. The bible taught the truth: Job 26:7 “He [God] hangs the Earth on nothing.” Scientists did not discover that the Earth hangs on nothing until 1650.
Another amazing fact that the bible uncovered far before man discovered the facts is that the number of stars is as the sand in sea.
Jeremiah 33:22 “The host of heaven [a reference to the stars] cannot be numbered, nor the sand of the sea measured.”
Before the telescope was invented, man was able to number the stars. The count was usually just over 1000. That was the prevailing scientific knowledge until the telescope was invented. The bible revealed though that there were more stars than anyone could count.
Atheist error #4 The history of the bible is made up, it is just mythology
The truth: In every instance where the Bible can be, or has been checked out archaeologically, it has been found to be 100% accurate. The Bible has proven so accurate that archaeologists often refer to it as a reliable guide when they go to dig in new areas.
Nelson Glueck, who appeared on the cover of Time magazine and who is considered one of the greatest archaeologists ever, wrote: “No archeological discovery has ever controverted [overturned] a Biblical reference. Scores of archeological findings have been made which confirm in clear outline or in exact detail historical statements in the Bible. And, by the same token, proper evaluation of Biblical descriptions has often led to amazing discoveries.”
The fact is there have been more than 25,000 discoveries within the region known as the "Bible Lands” that have confirmed the truthfulness of the Bible.
So there are just some of the common misconceptions atheists have concerning the bible. If you had any of these misconceptions then I venture that you must re-evaluate your position. God bless.

You need to do your research seriously! if your questioning the Christopher Columbus knowing the earth was circular. Most civilizations knew this they just didn't know where america was.

The problem with what your saying is this.. This guy died telling the truth unlike you! You really need to watch all 7 parts to understand what your
dealing with. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zgSCLBK6L4&feature=related
Aliens already made deals with your government WAKE THE #*$($ UP! Seriously this guy is dead.. you want the proof he shows it.
So yeah keep being ignorant you know nothing of real history and the real story at least I know and will know till you DIE!

You obviously have me confused with someone who has a strong belief in anything at all. I believe what I see, hear, taste, touch and fuck, combined with a rudimentary rationale to sift through as much insane, incorrect and just plain dumb ideas as possible. I don't like religion and politics because the tenets of most expect you to believe something a little (a lot?) crazy and unprovable, plus you gotta join their club; which is just asking to be spoon fed idiocy. (But what should I expect from an insane race of mammals that are raised from a young age to believe in Santa Claus and manifest destiny)

Just the same, I don't believe in aliens. Shit, for all I know, everything I see on television and the internet is a back drop for the greatest lie ever told: reality.

However, rest assured, if the aliens do come and they are bad, I will be the first to join the human alliance; and, just the same, if a dystopian new world order threatens my freedom (or at least my overall happiness) I will join the rebellion, because I am an idealist halfway to enlightenment, a humanitarian, a warrior spirit (German, Irish and Cherokee) and a goddamn bad person to mess with if cornered.

As my Teacher would say please don't call yourself a Scientist. if you did any research into the Antikythera Mechanism care to tell me who made it? Please show me. They just didn't know the distances. You can call me crazy all you want. The Truth is you stoped caring to know the truth long ago. Sadly I never stoped asking why! nor did I stop caring especially when i've seen some many strange things. You also forgot one question to ask yourself!
If lets say Aliens do exist and are wanting control of this planet cause they come from different places, didn't it not happen to cross your mind that some are good or wanting to help mankind out? or how about the fact you still work for someone are you truely free.. while people who are running big corporations get a easy bail out? I think you don't ask why much at all. If you want the truth go out to S4 at Area 51. If you want the truth go digging through thousands of sites like http://www.theblackvault.com or http://www.majesticdocuments.com which have thousands of government documents. Once your done reading all of that then come back and tell me I am wrong otherwise prove me wrong.

If you still think this is all BS! that is fine but your family will soon be caught up in this war some day whether you like it or not.

Comparing the Antikythera Mechanism to a jet liner in an Egyptian tomb is the silliest thing I've heard since Steve Jobs said the Segway would revolutionize the roadways. This device is indeed amazing, but hardly a case of aliens hindering human advancement. (More like time travelers stopping the world's early destruction imo)

Now, let's say aliens did destroy the ship carrying this object to halt our progression -- why?

To slow us down because their holocaust ships were too far off world to reach us in time if the industrial revolution started so soon? Why stop there? Why not systematically hinder all human advancement? Is it resources they're after? Slaves? If so, they'd simply halt us from achieving any progress.

Or was it... to prevent the human creator of the mechanism from having an unfair advantage, becoming a sole super power and enslaving mankind? In that case, if the aliens did this, then they're here to put a stop to any sort of dystopian new world order; therefore, I embrace them, til shown otherwise.

So many conclusions with a basis outside reality and in the realm of science fiction...

You're right, I don't have a clue what you're getting at. Make some sense and maybe I'll stop laughing. Honestly, I gave you some cred earlier, but now I'm beginning to think perhaps you're one of the least convincing trolls I've ever heard.

Prove me wrong. If you're privy to such information, at least try and teach me the truth without resorting to esoteric ideas with no believable plot elements... the truth usually has a nice ring to it, even when there are missing pieces, this simply does not ring true to me. Sorry, like I said, prove me wrong. I've never known a man or woman with a more open mind than myself, but I also have a hard time believing bullshit. Even my own.

I am sure your aware of this little surprise?

http://www.portifex.com/BSPages/FridayFronts/H0511.htm
Clockwork computer can predict the movement of stars and planets.. Made in Ancient Greece or around that Era.. No Mechanism can be found world wide at that point in time. No mention of clockwork technology being used on planet Earth. In 1971 the mechanism was X-Rayed.. They were shocked to find out it was far more complex then the clocks from the 1500's.

It was so sophisticated De Solla Price - "It was like discovering a jet liner in a ancient egyptian Tomb"
Was clearly owned by someone.. This is a Device.. it was kept away from mankind otherwise the industrial revolution would have happened before the birth of Jesus Christ. You have no Clue what your dealing with nor will I ever let you know. End of Line! your ignorance will be your downfall..

good bye

Concerning the other physical evidence it shows to me "Obvious" things (ancient artwork which doesn't make sense) which if you can't see then of course your not going to believe it. Some people still think the earth is flat!

Great followup Drachen_Jager. I'm a product of the US school system, so I see where US citizens frequently get their history wrong. US history courses neglect to show that the US had early warning of Pearl Harbor, yet did not react (one can debate the reasoning). They also neglect to teach that the war was well over and done with BEFORE the nukes dropped. Japan was in shambles and was powerless. The nukes were not necessary, but were dropped simply to 'flex muscles'. Lest we forget, many public school children are still told that Christopher Columbus discovered America(tm). Any person half educated would know that is complete trash. The continent was named after Amerigo Vespucci, and the first recorded settlers (the true discoverers) came tens of thousands of years before. As far as 'Europeans' arriving. The Norse/Vikings had small pre-colonization era settlements in what is now the eastern parts of Canada. All too often, people forget they are taught through a propagandist lens, and refuse to acknowledge that what they have been taught, while maybe not an outright lie, is only portrayed through a limited, patrio-favorable perspective. Often hiding past atrocities.
