Sabine Schmitz vs Ron Simons round 2 - Spa-Francorchamps

oritteropo says...

One of the top comments on yt (by chenstrapftw) makes a good point:

Even if he hadn't got held up by that GTR, Sabine still gets by based on how much quicker she took Blanchimont. Before Blanchimont he's .9 down. Out of blanchimont he was 1.5 second down, and after the chicane and to the line he was 2.5 seconds down.

I also think that Sabine was more committed because she really didn't want to be beaten by the boss

Bad luck on the traffic for Simons, though I do think Sabine is a slightly better driver.

World's Greatest Drag Race! - 11 cars on air strip

TickleMyElmo says...

One of the GT-R's tricks is its launch control. Hit the switch, hold the brake, hold the gas, let go of the brake. The computer takes over and it will execute a textbook drag race for you.

You can see that the GT-R got its advantage at the start. The 458 was closing in at the end.

Other cars in this group (including the 458) have launch control. But it's *brutal* on the drivetrain -- they may not have wanted, or had permission, to use it on the more expensive cars.

I was quite surprised the Nissan GTR won. I knew it was fast but wow, not that fast. Sub $100,000 too. If I ever get absurdly rich thats the car I'm buying.

You know what else is good at cornering? Mazda Miata. It can corner well because an inherent property: it's weight. It's not engineering, it's a game of, "you don't really need air conditioning, do you?">> ^Jinx:

Yes, how DARE they design a car that can take corners twice as fast as anything with a half tonne of engine in the front.

Man meets escalator

I certainly don't disagree. We don't even know how much we don't understand - that's why science is still progressing. However, the magical appeal of simple benign things such as an escalator is gone. We might not know how the world works, but we know the laws of physics at a large scale (General Theory of Relativity) and small scale (Quantum Theory). The magical and unknown phenomena still have to fit within our dictations of GTR or QT.
that is entirely the problem. the major delusion of not having anything to wonder about anymore. Over 90% of our own seas isn't discovered yet. We don't have a shit of a clue what happens around us in the universe and there is so much a single mind simply can't compute.
And yet the majority doesn't see it. They are drunk on technology and can't perceive what is around them, what is so stunning about nature, the universe and of course everything.

I have only one thing to say to you guys: Portal 2

Nissan GT-R smokes Bugatti Veyron

TickleMyElmo says...

That's either a very heavily modified GTR or the dude in the Veyron is just taking it easy. Off the line, maybe the GTR launch control (although the Veyron has its own) and lower weight might give it a little advantage, but once they are over 100mph, 1000 hp will stomp on 480 hp. There would just be no contest.

Edit: More info at http://www.zercustoms.com/news/Switzer-Nissan-GT-R-vs-Bugatti-Veyron-Video.html :

"The Switzer Nissan GT-R is equipped with the tuner's P800 power pack which get Godzilla to a total output of 800 hp and 700 lb-ft of torque."

Even so, 200 hp is a pretty big deficit from a running start as in the second clip. I'm still skeptical.

Upvote for GTR. One day I'll own one....one day..

Also French/Italian?

I mean, yeah I guess 'Bugatti' is an italian make, and it was built in france/named after a french man but it was designed (and owned) by Volkswagen as I'm sure you know. Those Germans deserve a mention :>

I think this deserves some *actionpack and both cars are exercises/amazing feats of *engineering plus I think I heard some wolfmother so - *music.
