2,867 miles? That's nothin.

So yeah. Gotta make that trip by m'self August 9th. I'm moving to Tempe, AZ - and I'm sure as shit gonna be miserable as soon as that heat hits me.
Not really looking forward to making the trip, but I can't wait to get there for a few different reasons.

I'm kinda nervous about moving to an area that's completely new to me - I've never even been to Arizona before. And it's a huge city (metro area = 4.5 million) Whereas the biggest city I've lived in is about 60,000 people.
At least I have family in Maryland and Misouri to stop at so I won't have to get a hotel. I'm kinda screwed from there though. I've considered taking a cot and sleeping on the side of the road somewhere near/in Amarillo, TX so I don't have to fork out a ton of cash for a hotel. But it will probably be hot as hell.

I guess I'll see what happens then.

Cool! I love Arizona, used to live around the area for a while, spent most of my time in Queen Creek, Tempe, and Gilbert. I can give you the down low on the area if you are ever looking for things to do.

It looks like you're going through the most boring parts of America on your way to AZ. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Where's the F on your map, signifying your trip to Vegas? You can't be that close and skip Sin City!

Good luck on your trip!

Would you say he's going from A to Z to get to AZ?! Huh?! Huh?! Hahahahahaha...haha... hee... ahem. [crickets]

Dude, I drove from NC to CA back in '99. It's a piece of cake. Be sure you don't have retread tires on your vehicle, because once you hit the scorching flat highways of New Mexico and Arizona, that hot pavement will loosen the retreads. It happened to me doing about 50 mphs hauling a jeep behind a jeep, and the jeep being towed lost its retread. The fact is I never knew it had a retreaded tire! Cheap dealer could've cost me big. Anyhow, just a word of caution.

That's a heck of a drive. My brother and I did a 5,000 mile trip last year in 10 days, so I can sympathize. Sounds like it'll be an adventure though. All the best with your trip and your "new life"!
